Starting at age 5, children learn about matter as something that has mass and takes up space. We are made of matter ourselves!
The study of matter is fundamental. Children learn that matter can be characterized by density, solubility, conductivity, magnetism, etc. Children can also learn that there are different states in which matter can be found: liquid, solid, gas, and plasma. All these states result from adding or removing heat to matter.
This knowledge is often offered through separate experiments and hardly accessed by children, not enough to make the knowledge sustainable.
States of Matter Puzzle is an excellent way to introduce the connections between states of matter and the scientific processes that affect these changes. The Research Cards included in the set help children learn the definitions of the key concepts, while the Task Cards provide independent work for the child. Natural finish wooden boxes are included to hold the cards.
