It does make sense for print lowercase to differentiate and prevent put upside down p/d/p/q or m/w, but in cursive it is not necessary. Also, the video show trace the dot. It can be confuse for the child and it is not part of the phonic. So my suggestion is ignore the dot and focus in the phonic formation only.
