Check out our new math set, Red and Blue Rods Complete Set, which aims to increase the amount of practice children get with essential Montessori materials. Our extension cards are meant to be used by the adult as an extension, while the children can use the reproducible booklet. The extension cards contain a visual control of errors, which fosters and facilitates independent learning!
Red and Blue Rods Complete Set consists of a set of 10 large incrementally designed rods (ranging from 10 cm. - 100 cm), 20 extension cards divided into 5 sections, a control chart, and a reproducible booklet. Children will be asked to count segments for given rods, organize rods by size, or perform simple addition and subtraction problems.
As seen in the pictures, the Large Red and Blue Rods can be substituted with the Table Top Counter Rods. Simply use one set of mini rods on a table. When counting, have children touch each segment with their fingers. This practice is part of the development of one-on-one correspondence, assigning a number to a segment (object) by synchronizing speech and hand movement.
