As simple as Montessori dry transfer works appear to be, there are powerful learning tools for children. Dry transfer works such as our Small Marble Transferring Activity are highly appreciated by children of all ages.
Small Marble Transferring Activity, which consists of marbles in steel bowls with tweezers, promotes oculomotor exercises where the eyes keep track of moving objects in space. Holding the tweezers help position the hand over the work, as one would do if holding a writing utensil. Pressing, holding, and releasing the tweezers not only strengthen the hand muscles but also exercises executive functioning. Our tweezers are different from smaller tweezers for finer works, they are large and bulky which promotes the C-shaping of the palm, another fundamental development for the child's hand.
When working with children on transferring wet or dry materials, always model and encourage children to move objects from left to right. This method is meant to prepare children for writing and reading from left to right!
Alison's Montessori carries an assortment of transfer works that target different developmental needs and keep children's interests high.
